Used to find breast and ovarian cancers. CA 15-3 is a protein that is produced by normal breast cells, when an individual has cancer they are shed by the tumor cells and enter the bloodstream, making it useful as a tumor marker to follow the course of the cancer. This lab test is useful for monitoring patients with metastatic breast cancer and ovarian cancers.
